The success rate and safety of dental implants (Part 1): The influence and evaluation of implant surface roughness on osseointegration
Why is it called dental implant?
Planting melons yields melons, planting beans yields beans. Is that type of dental implant like planting a tooth? Actually, it's not. Dental implants are made of metal titanium or titanium alloy, resembling screws, as shown in Figure 1 (also known as "implants" or "dental implants"). Why is it called 'planting'? In fact, the self repairing ability of the human body is amazing. After implantation into the dental arch, the implant will recognize and interact with the bone tissue, and through a physiological process similar to fracture healing, it will firmly bond with the dental arch. Branemark has long referred to this process as "osseointegration".
