Guidelines for optimizing and maintaining the sealing performance of manual globe valves
Date: 2025-06-06Read: 12
Manual globe valves are widely used in industrial systems, and their sealing performance directly affects the safety and efficiency of the system. The following technical guidelines are provided from two aspects: sealing performance optimization and maintenance.
Sealing performance optimization
Sealing surface treatment
The quality of the sealing surface is crucial. If there are scratches, dents, and other defects on the sealing surface, it is necessary to use grinding tools and grinding paste for fine grinding. For minor damages, the defect can be removed with coarse grinding paste first, and then polished with fine grinding paste until the surface roughness meets the requirements, ensuring a smooth and even sealing surface and reducing the risk of leakage.
Selection of sealing materials
Select appropriate sealing materials based on the characteristics of the medium. If transporting high-temperature media, high-temperature resistant flexible graphite, metal wrapped gaskets, etc. should be selected; When transporting corrosive media, corrosion-resistant materials such as polytetrafluoroethylene should be used. Different materials have different characteristics, and reasonable selection can improve the sealing effect.
Structural improvement
Optimizing valve structure design, such as increasing the specific pressure of the sealing surface, can enhance the sealing ability. Double sealing structure can also be used, so that when one seal fails, the other seal can still function, improving the reliability of the valve.
Maintenance technology
regular inspection
Regularly inspect the sealing surface of the valve to check for wear, corrosion, and other conditions. At the same time, check the valve stem threads, packing box, and other parts to ensure their normal operation. An inspection plan can be developed, such as monthly minor inspections and annual major inspections.
Lubrication and maintenance
The valve stem and packing box need to be lubricated regularly to reduce friction, prevent valve stem jamming and packing wear. Select appropriate lubricating grease and add it according to the prescribed cycle in the operating manual.
Replace the seal
When the sealing element ages, deforms or is damaged, it should be replaced in a timely manner. When replacing, pay attention to cleaning the sealing surface to ensure that the new seal is installed in place without any deviation, distortion, or other issues.
Operating Specifications
When operating the manual shut-off valve, it should be done slowly and steadily to avoid excessive force that may damage the tight cover. After the valve is fully opened and closed, do not operate it excessively.
