Briefly describe the standardized installation method of the benzene series automatic sampler
Date: 2025-12-23Read: 0

The benzene based compound automatic sampler is a key pre-treatment equipment designed for high-precision and high-throughput automatic sampling of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) such as benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, and xylene in water or air in gas chromatography or gas chromatography-mass spectrometry systems. The installation quality directly affects the repeatability of injection, sample integrity, and reliability of analysis results. If installed improperly, it can easily lead to peak trailing, cross contamination, injection needle jamming, and even system leakage. Mastering the scientific and standardized installation methods of benzene based automatic samplers is a prerequisite for achieving precise volume control and non-destructive transfer.

1、 Preparation before installation
Compatibility check: Confirm that the injector model matches the chromatograph brand and interface protocol;
Check environmental conditions: Install on a stable experimental platform, away from vibration sources, strong electromagnetic interference, and direct sunlight, at room temperature of 15-30 ℃, humidity<70% RH;
Complete consumables: Prepare specialized injection needles, sample bottles, cleaning solvents, and carrier gas pipelines.
2、 Mechanical positioning and fixation
Install the injector base firmly in front of the chromatograph injection port through the original bracket or bolt, ensuring that it is level without shaking;
Adjust the XYZ three-axis position so that the injection needle can be inserted vertically and without resistance into the chromatographic injection port (usually at a depth of 4-6mm), avoiding misalignment that may cause pad wear or needle bending;
The sample tray holder should be horizontally calibrated to prevent sample bottles from tipping over or failing to grab.
3、 Gas and circuit connection
Carrier gas connection: Use clean stainless steel or PEEK tubing to blow/isolate the gas path of the injector and connect it to the carrier gas (He or N2) of the chromatograph, with the pressure set according to the instructions (usually 5-15psi);
Communication cable: Connect RS232, USB, or LAN cable to the chromatography workstation to ensure normal handshake signal;
Power connection: Use a grounded regulated power socket to avoid voltage fluctuations affecting the accuracy of the stepper motor.
4、 Software configuration and functional testing
Load the corresponding driver program in the chromatography workstation and identify the injector model;
Set parameters such as sample size, injection volume, cleaning frequency (recommended ≥ 2 solvent+1 air), injection speed, etc;
Perform an "empty run" test: observe whether the movement of the robotic arm is smooth, and whether there is no lag in the lifting/puncturing of the injection needle;
Perform standard benzene series solution injection to verify retention time RSD<1% and peak area RSD<2%.
5、 Key points of safety and sealing
All joints are sealed with PTFE tape to prevent VOCs leakage;
Cover the waste liquid bottle and place it in a fume hood to prevent the volatilization of benzene derivatives;
After installation, conduct an air tightness test (using soap leak detection or system pressure maintenance test).
