The same centrifuge model can be equipped with a brushed motor or a brushless motor. This problem often occurs when customers purchase centrifuges. The parameter table specifies a certain model of centrifuge, brushless motor, or other motor. These types of motors have different prices and each has its own uses, often making it difficult for customers to choose centrifuge motors. The following information is for reference.
1、 Advantages and disadvantages of centrifugal machines with brushed motors:
Brushed electric motors use carbon brushes at the internal electrode structure of the motor. The two brushes (copper brushes or carbon brushes) of centrifuge motors are fixed on the back cover of the motor through insulation seats, directly introducing the positive and negative poles of the power supply to the rotor's inverter. The inverter is connected to the coils on the rotor, and the polarity of the three coils constantly alternates with the two magnets fixed on the housing to form a force and rotate. Advantages: It has the advantages of simple manufacturing, extremely low cost! Disadvantages: After starting, the working speed is generally constant, and speed regulation is not easy. Due to the fact that the inverter is fixed to the rotor, and the brush is fixed to the housing (stator), friction between the brush and the inverter constantly occurs during the rotation of the motor, generating a large amount of resistance and heat. So the efficiency of brushed motors is low and the losses are very large.
2、 Advantages and disadvantages of brushless motors for centrifuges:
As the name suggests, a brushless motor means that there is no carbon brush at the internal electrode structure of the motor! Advantages: Its no-load resistance mainly comes from the rotational contact point between the rotor and stator, so general brushless motors use ball bearings at both ends of the rotor to reduce friction! This way, there won't be a lot of frictional resistance and heat (in fact, heat will still be generated, but the heat source comes from the resistance loss on the coil), with an efficiency of * (80% -90% or more) and high speed! Usually it is digital frequency conversion control with strong controllability, which can be easily achieved from a few revolutions per minute to tens of thousands of revolutions per minute. It is generally applied to models that require high power output, providing strong power! The disadvantage is that the cost of its speed control system is higher than that of the speed control system with brushed high-speed motors, and the controller of the centrifuge is prone to malfunction during use. The most commonly seen one now is the brushless DC motor.
The above two types of motors are common and suitable for different occasions. Centrifuges with brushed motors have low manufacturing costs, so the market price is also relatively affordable, and the working speed remains constant after starting. Suitable for general laboratories and research institutions, brushed motors have always dominated, but with increasingly high technical requirements, the application of brushed motors in centrifuges is gradually decreasing. Brushless motors have strong controllability, low power loss, low noise, dust-free and environmentally friendly characteristics. Although they are expensive, they have been favored by large laboratories and research institutions. Especially in terms of environmental protection, maintenance free, long service life, and energy saving, their application in centrifugal motors is becoming increasingly widespread.
