Tips and Precautions for Sample Loading in Desktop Large Capacity Centrifuges
Date: 2025-08-25Read: 0
Centrifuge, as a device that uses high-speed rotation to generate centrifugal force for sample separation, plays a crucial role in scientific research laboratories, medical institutions, and many production fields. Among them, desktop high-capacity centrifuges are highly favored due to their large processing capacity and relatively compact design. However, in practical use, a often overlooked but crucial issue - sample imbalance - may have a serious impact on the accuracy of experimental results, the stability of equipment, and even the safety of operators. Below, we will provide a detailed introduction on how to effectively avoid sample imbalance, as well as the relevant techniques and precautions to be taken when using it.
Ensure sample balance is usedDesktop high-capacity centrifugeThe primary principle. Unbalanced samples can cause severe vibrations in centrifuges during high-speed operation, not only affecting separation efficiency, but also potentially damaging machine components and even leading to safety accidents. To achieve this, it is recommended to use a symmetrical placement method. Specifically, it means placing centrifuge tubes of similar mass in symmetrical positions relative to the axis of rotation. This can greatly reduce the uneven centrifugal force caused by quality differences, thereby maintaining the dynamic balance of the entire machine.
Extra caution should also be exercised when selecting centrifuge tubes. Centrifugal tubes of different specifications or materials have different physical properties, such as density, hardness, etc., which may affect the equilibrium state during the centrifugation process. Therefore, it is advisable to avoid mixing centrifuge tubes of different specifications or materials as much as possible to ensure that all centrifuge tubes used have as consistent physical properties as possible. At the same time, it is necessary to check whether the selected centrifuge tube is compatible with the test sample to prevent corrosion or rupture.
In addition to the symmetrical placement principle mentioned above, there is another detail that is easily overlooked - the mass of the substance added to each centrifuge tube should also be roughly equal. This means that when adding samples to each centrifuge tube, it is necessary to control the amount of addition as much as possible to minimize the quality difference between them. Although it is difficult to achieve an equal amount, by carefully weighing and adjusting, this difference can be controlled within an acceptable range, further promoting overall balance.
Of course, simply focusing on the balance of the sample itself is not enough. Before use, a comprehensive inspection of the centrifuge's various working conditions should be carried out, including whether the power connection is normal, whether the equipment has obvious damage or abnormalities, etc. Especially for cryogenic centrifuges with temperature control function, it is necessary to set the required temperature in advance and wait for the centrifuge chamber to reach that temperature before proceeding with subsequent operations to ensure the reliability of experimental results, especially for samples that are sensitive to temperature.
Security measures cannot be ignored either. The working power supply must have good grounding measures, and the instrument casing should also be properly grounded to prevent accidents caused by moisture affecting the entire machine. In addition, the turntable should avoid contact with corrosive substances such as strong acids and alkalis, and it is strictly prohibited for various liquids or other debris to enter the centrifuge chamber to avoid damaging the internal components of the host. When the centrifuge is running at high speed, do not open the upper cover casually to avoid personal injury.
The correct loading method is also a key factor in ensuring the smooth progress of the centrifugation process. Place the centrifuge tube containing the sample smoothly into the rotor slot of the centrifuge and confirm again whether its distribution conforms to the principle of symmetry. Subsequently, close the centrifuge cover and start the equipment to begin centrifugal separation. Throughout the entire process, operators should closely monitor the operation status of the equipment. Once abnormal sounds or increased vibrations are detected, the machine should be immediately shut down for inspection and troubleshooting.
When using a desktop high-capacity centrifuge, it is important to pay attention to the balance of the sample. This can be achieved by symmetrically placing centrifuge tubes of similar mass, selecting centrifuge tubes of appropriate specifications and materials, and controlling the amount of sample added. At the same time, strengthen the daily maintenance and safety inspection of equipment to ensure that each experiment can be conducted in a safe and stable environment. Only in this way can the efficient separation capability of desktop high-capacity centrifuges be fully utilized, providing strong support for scientific research work.
