What aspects should be considered when selecting an explosion-proof atmospheric sampler
Date: 2025-09-19Read: 22
In hazardous areas such as petrochemicals, metallurgy, and coal mines where flammable and explosive gases exist, the selection of explosion-proof atmospheric samplers directly affects the safety of detection personnel and the effectiveness of monitoring data. Here are six core dimensions to analyze the key points of purchasing:
1、 Explosion proof certification and grade matching
The primary verification is whether the instrument has passed the national explosion-proof certification (such as CNEX), and its explosion-proof mark should clearly indicate the applicable environmental type. For places containing explosive gases such as hydrogen and methane, explosion-proof (Ex d) equipment should be selected, and the explosion-proof level should reach Class II (applicable to explosive gas environments other than mines). If there is a risk of dust explosion, intrinsic safety (Ex i) or positive pressure (Ex p) equipment should be selected. Special attention should be paid to the overall explosion-proof level of the instrument, which must strictly correspond to the hazardous zone of the workplace (such as T1-T6 temperature group), to avoid ignition caused by high temperature.
2、 Sampling flow and precision control
The sampling flow rate determines the mass of target objects captured per unit time, and the required flow range needs to be determined based on detection standards (such as "Occupational Exposure Limits for Hazardous Factors in the Workplace"). High quality instruments should have multiple adjustable flow functions and display instantaneous flow and cumulative volume in real time through electronic flow meters. The calibration certificate must demonstrate a flow deviation of ≤ ± 5% at the nominal flow rate to ensure data traceability. For low concentration pollutant detection, it is recommended to choose equipment with a constant current control module to avoid flow drift caused by voltage fluctuations.
3、 Anti corrosion design of gas path system
For acidic gases (SO ₂, NO ₓ) or wet samples, the gas path material needs to have strong corrosion resistance. Polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) pipelines can resist most corrosive gases, and stainless steel components should be subjected to electrolytic polishing treatment to reduce adsorption effects. The intake filter should be made of hydrophobic materials to prevent liquid water vapor from blocking the air path. Special attention should be paid to the sealing structure of the pump body, and the design of dual mechanical seals combined with O-rings can effectively extend the service life.
4、 Power system and endurance capability
It is strictly prohibited to use ordinary lithium batteries in explosion-proof situations. Lithium manganese oxide or lithium iron phosphate battery packs that have been certified for explosion-proof must be selected. The battery capacity must meet the requirement of continuous working time of ≥ 8 hours and support fast charging technology. Brushless DC motors have lower spark risk and significantly reduced operating noise compared to traditional carbon brush motors. In emergency mode, it should be able to automatically switch to the backup battery to ensure the integrity of sampling in case of sudden power failure.
5、 Intelligent Control and Data Management
Modern explosion-proof samplers generally integrate microprocessor control systems, which can achieve multiple modes such as timed sampling and constant volume sampling. The LCD display screen needs to clearly display key parameters such as remaining battery life, current flow rate, and cumulative volume. The data storage function should support at least 100 sets of sampling records and export environmentally friendly report formats through a USB interface. Some models are equipped with Bluetooth modules, which can remotely monitor the sampling status and reduce the risk of personnel exposure.
6、 Portability and Humanized Design
The weight of the instrument should be controlled within 3kg, equipped with anti slip handles and shoulder straps for easy one handed operation. The shell is made of high-strength engineering plastic, which ensures both lightweight and impact resistance. The filter membrane holder should be designed with a quick opening structure to facilitate quick replacement of the filter membrane when wearing a gas mask. The sound and light alarm function can provide timely reminders in case of abnormal flow or insufficient battery, improving the safety of on-site operations.
The purchase of explosion-proof atmospheric samplers requires comprehensive consideration of multiple dimensions such as explosion-proof rating, sampling accuracy, material durability, power safety, and intelligent control. It is recommended to prioritize brand products that have passed ATEX or IECEx international certification, and require suppliers to provide detailed explosion-proof certificates and third-party testing reports to ensure the intrinsic safety of equipment in hazardous environments.
