Qingming Festival, also known as Outing Festival, falls on the 108th day after the Winter Solstice, at the transition between mid spring and late spring. It is a traditional Chinese festival and one of the most important sacrificial festivals, a day for ancestor worship and tomb sweeping. The traditional Qingming Festival of the Chinese nation dates back to the Zhou Dynasty and has a history of over 2500 years.
Qingming Festival has long been just a name for a solar term, which has become a festival to commemorate ancestors and is related to the Cold Food Festival. Duke Wen of Jin designated the day after the Cold Food Festival as Qingming Festival. In most areas of Shanxi, the Cold Food Festival is celebrated one day before Qingming Festival; Yushe County and other places celebrate the Cold Food Festival two days before Qingming Festival; Yuanqu County also emphasizes that the day before Qingming Festival is called Cold Food Festival, and the first two days are called Little Cold Food Festival. Qingming Festival is one of the important "Eight Festivals of the Year" in China, usually around April 5th in the Gregorian calendar. The festival period is very long, with two versions: 10 days before and 8 days after, and 10 days after. These nearly 20 days belong to Qingming Festival. Qingming Festival originally referred to the fifteen days after the Spring Equinox. In 1935, the government designated April 5th as the national holiday Qingming Festival, also known as the National Tomb Sweeping Festival.
