The solar cell IV tester (current voltage characteristic tester) is a core tool for evaluating the performance of photovoltaic devices, and its operational standardization directly affects the accuracy of test results. The following systematically explains the usage details from equipment preparation, testing process, data parsing to maintenance points.
1、 Preparation before testing
1. Equipment inspection and calibration
-Appearance inspection: Confirm that the tester host, probe, and connecting wires are not damaged, especially the insulation layer of the current probe should be intact to avoid the risk of leakage.
-Calibration operation:
-Zero point calibration: Preheat for 15 minutes after turning on the device, place the probe in a short-circuit state (connect the positive and negative terminals of the battery directly), and adjust the current zero point to zero.
-Standard light source calibration: Use a standard solar simulator (AM1.5G spectrum, 1000W/m ² light intensity), in conjunction with a reference cell for light intensity calibration, with an error controlled within ± 2%.
-Temperature compensation: If the testing environment deviates from the standard temperature of 25 ℃, the temperature coefficient needs to be entered into the software (usually corrected by about -0.45% of the open circuit voltage per ℃).
2. Sample pretreatment
-Surface cleaning: Use a dust-free cloth dipped in alcohol to wipe the surface of the battery, remove oil stains or oxide layers, and ensure good electrode contact.
-Electrode treatment: Check whether the battery electrodes are flat, and if necessary, use micro pressure pliers to fix the leads to reduce contact resistance (ideal contact resistance<1 Ω).
-Optical alignment: Adjust the angle of the light source so that the light is perpendicular to the surface of the battery, avoiding local mismatches caused by shadow effects.
2、 Test process specification
1. Parameter settings
-Voltage scanning range: Set the upper limit of voltage according to the battery type (such as 0.7V for conventional silicon batteries), and set the lower limit to -0.1V to capture reverse characteristics.
-Scanning rate: Generally selected between 50-200mV/s, too fast may cause capacitance interference, while too slow may increase the risk of thermal drift.
-Sampling interval: It is recommended to be ≤ 1mV/point to ensure the smoothness of the curve, especially focusing on dense sampling near the maximum power point (MPP).
2. Test execution
-Dark state test:
-Turn off the light source and test the dark current voltage curve of the battery to analyze parameters such as diode saturation current density (J0).
-The voltage step should not exceed 10mV, and the current sensitivity should be adjusted to nanoampere level (nA).
-Light test:
-After turning on the light source, wait for 30 seconds until the battery temperature stabilizes before starting the test (temperature fluctuations should be<± 0.5 ℃).
-Real time monitoring of battery operating temperature. If it exceeds the standard, testing should be paused and the cooling device should be activated.
3. Data recording
-Multi cycle verification: Repeat the test at least 3 times under the same conditions and take the average to reduce accidental errors.
-Abnormal data labeling: If the short-circuit current (Isc) of a test deviates from the mean by more than 2%, the probe contact status or whether the battery is locally damaged should be checked.
3、 Data parsing and key parameter extraction
1. Analysis of IV curve
-Open circuit voltage (Voc): Take the voltage value when I=0, and eliminate the interference of probe leakage current (leakage current should be<1pA).
-Short circuit current (Isc): Take the current value when V=0, and be careful to avoid overheating of the leads (low resistance cables are recommended for high currents).
-Maximum power point (Pmax): Calculated by formula, the IV curve needs to be smoothed and fitted.
4、 Common sources and avoidance of errors
1. Excessive contact resistance:
-Phenomenon: Isc is significantly lower than the theoretical value, and the IV curve is distorted in the low-pressure region.
-Solution: Use gold-plated probes or pressure contacts to regularly polish the electrode surface.
2. Uneven illumination:
-Phenomenon: The temperature difference between the edge and center of the battery is greater than 2 ℃, resulting in inconsistent Voc distribution.
-Solution: Adjust the distance of the light source and use a uniform light plate or fiber optic array to optimize the light intensity distribution.
3. Temperature drift:
-Phenomenon: After long-term testing, Voc continues to decrease, with a decrease of>1mV per minute.
-Solution: Intermittent testing (cooling down every 10 minutes), or use a temperature controlled sample stage.
5、 Equipment maintenance and safety precautions
1. Daily maintenance:
-The probe should be stored in a dry oven to avoid electrolyte crystallization (if using an electrochemical probe).
-Verify the current accuracy monthly using a standard resistive load (such as 1k Ω± 0.1%).
2. Safety regulations:
-High voltage protection: When testing a series connected battery pack, if the voltage may exceed 1000V, insulated gloves should be worn and the emergency stop button should be activated.
-Light intensity protection: Avoid direct eye contact with light sources and wear UV protective goggles during operation.
