What are the ways to maintain handheld water quality detectors
Date: 2025-11-08Read: 0
As a core tool for environmental monitoring, aquaculture, and industrial water quality control, handheld water quality detectors highly rely on scientific maintenance systems for their measurement accuracy and service life. Based on the working principle and practical application scenarios of the equipment, systematic maintenance should cover the following six dimensions:
1、 Regular calibration and verification
Standard solution calibration
According to the frequency of use (weekly to monthly) and manufacturer's recommendations, use a standard solution of known concentration for single or multi-point calibration. For example, pH electrodes require buffer solutions (such as pH 4.01, 7.00), and dissolved oxygen meters need to be calibrated with saturated air-water.
If the calibration value continues to deviate from the standard range, it indicates that the sensitivity of the sensor has decreased and the electrode needs to be replaced instead of forced calibration.
2、 Whole process cleaning and protection
Core component cleaning
Sensors/probes: Immediately rinse the residue with deionized water after each use. For stubborn pollutants, soak them in the matching cleaning solution to soften. Do not use hard objects to scratch the surface coating.
Colorimetric dish: Glass/quartz dishes used in optical colorimetric methods need to be wiped unidirectionally with laboratory specific mirror paper to avoid scratches that may affect absorbance readings.
Shell maintenance: Gently wipe the body with a slightly damp soft cloth, and strictly prohibit the use of organic solvents such as alcohol and acetone to prevent corrosion of the coating.
Environmental isolation measures
In complex scenarios such as sewage and chemical wastewater, it is recommended to install IP68 level protective shells for equipment in advance to block corrosive gases and suspended particles.
3、 Scientific storage management
environmental control
Long term storage should be carried out in a cool and dry environment with a temperature of 15-25 ℃ and a relative humidity of<60%, away from strong magnetic fields.
It is recommended to hang electrode components on dedicated brackets to avoid deformation of the membrane due to stacking and compression.
Electrical Safety Management
When not in use for more than a month, be sure to remove the battery and label the date to prevent leakage and corrosion of the circuit board. Lithium batteries should maintain 50% battery capacity storage and be recharged every 3 months to maintain activity.
4、 Battery and Power Management
Charging and discharging specifications
Activate the battery by fully charging and discharging it 3 times before use, and choose the original adapter for daily charging to avoid voltage surges caused by incompatible fast charging protocols.
When the battery level is below 20%, timely charging and deep discharge can significantly shorten the lifespan of lithium-ion batteries.
Backup power configuration
It is recommended to carry a combination of a portable power bank and a car charger for fieldwork. During critical tasks, the UPS uninterruptible power supply module should be activated to ensure data integrity.
5、 Intelligent operation and personnel training
Digital management system
Establish electronic maintenance logs and automatically push reminders for the next calibration time and consumables replacement.
Regularly upgrade device firmware, optimize algorithms to enhance anti-interference capabilities.
Operator skill matrix
Implement a three-level training system: new employees must pass theoretical assessments (equipment principles) and practical certifications (blind sample testing); The annual refresher training focuses on updating the national standard changes and new pollutant detection methods.
Establish a "red blue confrontation" exercise mechanism to simulate emergency response processes under special working conditions.
6、 Risk plan and lifecycle management
Emergency response
Water ingress accident: Immediately cut off the power and invert the drainage, dehydrate with anhydrous ethanol and send for repair. It is strictly prohibited to turn on the machine for drying to prevent short circuits from expanding losses.
Physical damage: After falling and impacting, priority should be given to checking whether the sensor positioning ring is offset, and verifying the optical path collimation through standard liquid testing.
Spare parts inventory strategy
Dynamically reserve vulnerable parts based on historical fault data to balance capital occupation and supply risks.
The efficient maintenance essence of handheld water quality detectors is a closed-loop management of "precise prevention active intervention rapid recovery". Through the above structured maintenance system, the equipment failure rate can be reduced, the average working time can be greatly extended, and the reliability and compliance of the detection data can be guaranteed.
