The core principle of achieving high precision with deep understanding micro nano 3D printers
Date: 2025-10-23Read: 3
Micro nano 3D printers can achieve precise manufacturing of complex structures at the micrometer or even nanometer scale, breaking the limits of traditional manufacturing technology with high precision. The core lies in the collaborative optimization of "light material control".
1、 Core principle:
The essence of micro nano 3D printing is to selectively solidify/melt materials in specific areas through high-energy density beam streams (such as lasers, electron beams) or droplet jetting, and stack them layer by layer to form three-dimensional structures. Taking two-photon polymerization (TPP) technology as an example, it utilizes the high peak power (>GW/cm ²) of femtosecond laser (wavelength 780-800nm, pulse width<100 femtoseconds) to induce two-photon absorption of photosensitive resin (including photoinitiator) at the focal point (traditional single photon absorption only occurs linearly in the laser path, while two-photon absorption requires two photons to act on the same molecule simultaneously, with a probability proportional to the square of the light intensity, and only occurs in high-intensity areas of the focal region). When the light intensity at the focal point reaches the threshold (usually>10 ¹² W/cm ²), the photosensitive resin molecular chains break and re polymerize, forming a solid polymer (with a curing accuracy of 10-100nm). By controlling the movement trajectory of the laser focus in three-dimensional space (using a high-precision piezoelectric ceramic platform with a displacement resolution of<1nm), the target structure is constructed point by point, line by line, and layer by layer.
For electron beam melting (EBM) technology (mainly used for metal micro nano structure printing), it uses high-energy electron beams (energy 10-30keV, beam density>10 ⁶ A/cm ²) to focus on the surface of metal powders (such as titanium alloys and nickel based alloys) in a vacuum environment (<10 ⁻ Pa), causing the powder particles to instantly melt and solidify. The focusing diameter of the electron beam can be as small as 1-10 μ m (precisely controlled by electromagnetic lenses), and through scanning path planning (such as line by line scanning or spiral scanning), precise shaping of micrometer level feature sizes (such as rod diameter<5 μ m for grid structures) can be achieved.

2、 Key technical support:
1. High precision motion control:Micro nano 3D printerUsing a nanoscale displacement platform (such as piezoelectric ceramic motor, displacement resolution<0.1nm, repeat positioning accuracy ± 10nm), combined with a laser/electron beam scanning system (such as galvanometer or electromagnetic lens), to achieve sub micron motion control in three-dimensional space. For example, the piezoelectric platform of a two-photon printer can achieve a positioning accuracy of ± 20nm in the X/Y/Z directions, ensuring that the alignment error of adjacent printing layers is less than 100nm.
2. Material characteristic optimization: Printing materials (such as photosensitive resins and metal powders) need to have high reactivity (such as a large two-photon absorption cross-section of photosensitive resins) and low shrinkage (volume change<2% after curing/melting, avoiding structural deformation). For example, photosensitive resins designed specifically for TPP technology contain large volume photoinitiators (such as Darocur TPO), which have a two-photon absorption efficiency 10 times higher than traditional initiators and can achieve high-precision curing at low laser power.
3. Precise control of process parameters: laser power (usually 1-100mW), scanning speed (1-100 μ m/s), layer thickness (10-100nm) and other parameters need to be finely adjusted according to material and structural requirements. For example, when printing high aspect ratio microstructures (such as cantilever beams, height/width>10:1), it is necessary to reduce the scanning speed (<10 μ m/s) and increase the laser power (>50mW) to ensure sufficient solidification of the bottom layer; When printing fine patterns (such as micro lens arrays with a curvature radius of<1 μ m), it is necessary to reduce the layer thickness (<20nm) and optimize the scanning path (to avoid step effects).
4. Environmental control: The printing environment (such as temperature, humidity, vibration) has a significant impact on accuracy. Laboratory grade micro nano 3D printers are typically equipped with a constant temperature chamber (temperature fluctuation<± 0.1 ℃), a dehumidifier (humidity<30%), and an active damping platform (isolating ground vibrations with a vibration amplitude<1nm) to ensure the stability of material properties and equipment movement during the printing process.
Micro nano 3D printerThrough the collaborative optimization of "energy focusing material reaction motion control", the precision limit of traditional manufacturing has been broken through, providing good manufacturing capabilities for fields such as micro nano electromechanical systems (MEMS), biomedicine (such as tissue engineering scaffolds), optical devices (such as metasurface lenses), etc., promoting the development of micro nano manufacturing technology towards higher precision and more complex structures.
