A three-dimensional ultrasonic anemometer is a precision instrument that measures wind speed and direction through the propagation characteristics of ultrasonic waves, and its measurement accuracy is affected by various factors. The following is a systematic analysis of the influencing factors from the aspects of environmental conditions, equipment performance, installation methods, data processing, and characteristics of the tested medium:
1、 Environmental factors
1. Changes in temperature, humidity, and air pressure
The propagation speed of ultrasound in air is significantly affected by temperature, humidity, and air pressure. An increase in temperature leads to an increase in sound velocity, while an increase in humidity leads to a decrease in sound velocity.
2. Airflow stability and turbulence intensity
Turbulence or gusts in natural wind fields can cause disturbances in the propagation path of ultrasonic waves, affecting the accuracy of time difference measurements. For example, an increase in turbulence intensity in strong wind environments may lead to fluctuations in measurement data.
3. Weather and environmental interference
Weather phenomena such as rain, snow, and fog droplets can scatter or absorb ultrasonic energy, leading to signal attenuation; Particles such as sand and dust may adhere to the surface of the instrument, affecting the performance of the transducer.
2、 Equipment performance factors
1. Frequency and accuracy of the transducer
The emission frequency and sensitivity of the transducer directly affect the measurement resolution. Although high-frequency ultrasound can improve accuracy, its propagation distance is limited; Low frequencies may reduce resolution.
2. Time measurement accuracy
Wind speed calculation relies on accurate measurement of the round-trip time difference of ultrasonic waves. If the time resolution is insufficient (such as below nanoseconds), small changes in wind speed may be ignored.
3. Circuit noise and signal interference
Analog circuit noise will be superimposed on weak ultrasonic signals, reducing the signal-to-noise ratio. Interference needs to be suppressed through shielded cables, filtering circuits, and software algorithms.
3、 Installation and mechanical factors
1. Installation position and angle
The instrument should be kept away from obstacles and the ultrasound path should be parallel to the incoming flow direction. If the installation is tilted or obstructed, airflow disturbance can cause measurement deviation.
2. Vibration and mechanical stability
Equipment vibration (such as wind shaking or unstable fixation) can alter the ultrasonic propagation path and introduce errors. An anti vibration bracket should be used and the firmware connection should be ensured to be reliable.
4、 Data Processing and Algorithms
1. Signal processing algorithm
It is necessary to extract ultrasonic signal features through Fourier transform or related algorithms, and compensate for the influence of environmental parameters (such as temperature) on sound velocity. The lag of algorithms may lead to delayed response of dynamic wind fields.
2. Error in 3D vector calculation
The three dimensional ultrasound signals need to be fused to calculate the wind speed vector. If the time synchronization of each channel is insufficient or the gain is inconsistent, it will lead to wind direction deviation.
5、 Characteristics of the tested medium
1. Air composition and impurities
Dust and corrosive gases (such as SO ₂) in the air may contaminate the surface of the transducer or absorb ultrasonic energy, leading to signal attenuation.
2. Temperature and humidity stratification effect
The temperature and humidity differences at different heights can form a sound velocity gradient, causing the ultrasonic propagation path to bend (refraction phenomenon) and affecting measurement accuracy.
6、 Maintenance and Calibration
1. Regular calibration requirements
Regular calibration is required using a standard wind speed source (such as a wind tunnel) to compensate for long-term errors such as transducer aging and circuit drift.
2. Aging and Cleaning of Transducers
The sensitivity or frequency deviation of the transducer may decrease after long-term use, and it is necessary to regularly clean and replace aging components.
