What is the difference between a glove box and a vacuum chamber
Date: 2025-09-29Read: 30

There are certain differences between glove boxes and vacuum chambers in terms of structure, function, and application, as follows:

structural design
Glove box: usually has a sealed box with gloves installed on it, and operators can operate inside the box through the gloves. Some glove boxes are also equipped with transition compartments for the entry and exit of materials to maintain a stable environment inside the box.
Vacuum box: Generally a sealed container, the key lies in its good sealing and vacuum maintenance ability. There is usually no specialized glove operating device, and there may be observation windows for observing internal conditions.
Features
Glove box: The main function is to create a space that isolates the external environment, can be filled with inert gas, and effectively controls oxygen, moisture, etc. to meet the operational needs of air sensitive materials, while facilitating various experiments or production operations for operators.
Vacuum box: The core function is to exhaust the air inside the box through a vacuum pump, creating a vacuum environment to block the entry of external oxygen, moisture, and other pollutants. At the same time, it has good insulation and thermal insulation performance, maintaining the stability of internal temperature.
pressure control
Glove box: It can be divided into positive pressure glove box and negative pressure glove box. The internal pressure of the positive pressure glove box is higher than the external pressure, which can prevent external pollutants from entering; The internal pressure of the negative pressure glove box is lower than the external pressure, which can prevent the leakage of harmful substances inside the box.
Vacuum box: It mainly uses vacuum pumping to lower the internal pressure below the external atmospheric pressure, achieving a certain degree of vacuum to meet the requirements of different processes and experiments for vacuum environment.
Application scenarios
Glove box: widely used in the fields of lithium-ion batteries and materials, semiconductors, supercapacitors, etc., for experiments and production operations in ultra pure environments without water, oxygen, and dust.
Vacuum chamber: It is widely used in biomedical research, materials science, metallurgical processing, electronic device manufacturing and other fields, such as simulating space environment, preparing high-purity materials, purifying metals, etc.
