Blurred image, abnormal temperature? Guidelines for Self Inspection and Repair of Common Malfunctions in Infrared Gas Imagers
Date: 2025-12-09Read: 1
In scenarios such as industrial leak detection and environmental monitoring,Infrared gas imaging instrumentIt is the core equipment for accurately identifying gas leaks, and image blurring and abnormal temperature data are its high-frequency faults, which not only affect detection efficiency but may also lead to missed detections and misjudgments. The following is a layered self-examination process and targeted repair plan for common faults of the device, which balances universality and practicality and is suitable for most domestic and imported equipment.
1、 Image blurring fault: from "surface cleaning" to "core calibration"
Image blur is the most intuitive type of fault, which can be gradually investigated in the order of "external internal system".
1. Optical lens contamination
This is the most fundamental and frequent trigger. Dust, oil, and water vapor in industrial sites are prone to adhere to the surface of the lens, blocking the infrared light path. During self inspection, observe whether there are obvious stains on the surface of the lens. When repairing, use a special lens cloth dipped in anhydrous ethanol and gently wipe the lens in a clockwise direction to avoid scratches caused by ordinary paper towels; If it is condensation of water vapor, the preheating function of the equipment can be turned on, or the lens can be blown with dry nitrogen to restore optical transparency.
2. Dust accumulation or aging in the detector window
If the image is still blurry after cleaning the lens, check the internal detector window. Some devices can be checked for dust accumulation in the window by disassembling the casing (power off and following the operation manual), and cleaning with a dedicated dust removal cotton swab is sufficient; If the detector shows aging (manifested as long-term graying of the image and sudden drop in resolution), it is necessary to contact the manufacturer to replace the detector module, and do not disassemble it by yourself.
3. Inaccurate image parameters
Incorrect adjustment of the focal length and gain parameters of the device can also cause image blurring. You can enter the system settings, restore the factory default values of image parameters, and calibrate the lens focal length. For long-distance detection scenarios, manually adjust the focus knob to make the image clear. Some smart devices can enable the autofocus function for quick calibration.

2、 Abnormal temperature fault: first "eliminate interference" and then "calibrate core"
Abnormal temperature is manifested as temperature measurement value drift, background temperature difference disorder, and no response in gas recognition area temperature. It needs to be investigated in both "environmental interference" and "equipment itself" directions.
1. Environmental and working condition interference
Firstly, confirm whether the testing environment meets the equipment requirements: high temperature and high humidity environments can easily cause the temperature sensor to malfunction. You can first transfer the equipment to a dry area at room temperature and let it sit for 30 minutes before trying again; If there is strong electromagnetic interference in the detection area (such as high-power motors nearby), it will affect the signal transmission of the equipment. It is necessary to stay away from the interference source or turn on the anti-interference mode of the equipment. In addition, if the detection distance exceeds the device range (such as using a close range device to detect targets 100 meters away), it will also cause temperature data distortion, and the detection distance needs to be adjusted to the device calibration range.
2. Calibration failure of temperature sensor
Sensors are the core of temperature detection, and long-term use may result in calibration deviation. During self inspection, the equipment can be aligned with a standard heat source of known temperature (such as a constant temperature calibrated blackbody furnace), and the deviation between the displayed temperature and the actual temperature can be compared. If the deviation is within ± 2 ℃, one click calibration can be completed through the built-in calibration program of the equipment; If the deviation exceeds the threshold, it is necessary to contact the manufacturer for professional calibration. Some domestic equipment supports remote calibration services and parameter correction can be completed without returning to the factory.
3. Cooling system malfunction
Blockage or stoppage of the internal cooling fan of the device can cause overheating of the core components, leading to temperature data disorder. During self inspection, you can listen to the fan noise when the device is running. If there is any abnormal noise or stoppage, turn off the power and clean the dust accumulation on the fan filter. If the fan is damaged, replace it with accessories of the same specification to ensure that the device operates within the normal operating temperature range.
3、 General Fault Prevention and Precautions
1. Daily maintenance: Clean the lens after each use and store it in a drying oven. Regularly check the sealing performance of the equipment to prevent dust from entering the interior; Perform basic parameter calibration once every quarter to extend the service life of the equipment.
2. Operation taboos: Avoid directly aiming the equipment at strong light sources (such as the sun) to prevent the detector from burning out; It is prohibited to disassemble the core components of the equipment before power is turned off. Complex faults should be handled by professional personnel.
3. Advantages of domestic equipment: Most of them are domestically producedInfrared gas imaging instrumentEquipped with a fault self checking system, it can locate the fault point through screen pop ups, and the supply of accessories is timely with lower maintenance costs, adapting to the high cost-effectiveness requirements of industrial scenarios.
Through the above layered self inspection and repair, more than 80% of common faults in infrared gas imaging instruments can be solved. If the fault is still not resolved, it is necessary to contact the manufacturer for in-depth testing in a timely manner to avoid safety hazards caused by equipment failures.
