Dust detectors play an important role in the field of environmental monitoring
Date: 2025-10-24Read: 1
Dust detector is an important tool for measuring the concentration of suspended particles in the air. Based on multiple principles, it achieves accurate measurement of dust concentration. It has many advantages such as fast and accurate, high sensitivity, strong portability, multifunctionality, good stability, and assistance in scientific decision-making. It plays an important role in environmental monitoring, industrial safety, and other fields.
The basic working principle of dust detector:
1. Light scattering method: When light shines on particles suspended in the air, light scattering occurs. Under certain conditions of optical system and dust properties, the scattered light intensity is proportional to the dust concentration. The instrument measures the scattered light intensity and converts it to obtain the dust mass concentration. This is a commonly used method, such as some portable dust detectors that use this principle to quickly identify the particle size distribution and concentration changes of particulate matter.
2. Beta ray method: Dust particles absorb beta rays, and the degree of intensity attenuation is only related to the mass of the material being penetrated, rather than its physical and chemical properties. The specific operation is that the instrument extracts an air sample at a specified flow rate, filters the gas through a strip filter paper, and concentrates the dust on the filter paper. The filter paper before and after capture is irradiated with beta rays and the intensity of the beta rays passing through the filter paper is measured to indirectly measure the mass of dust attached to the filter paper.
3. Communication electrostatic induction method: using the dynamic charge induction between dust particles flowing through the probe and the probe to generate a signal. The communication electrostatic technology determines the disturbance amount of the AC signal by monitoring the standard deviation of the charge signal, and determines the dust emission amount based on the magnitude of the instantaneous disturbance amount.
Measurement steps of dust detector:
1. Preparation work
-Check the power supply and equipment status: Ensure that the instrument has sufficient power supply, and confirm that both the battery level and external power supply are normal; At the same time, check whether all components of the instrument are intact and whether the display screen is working properly. This is the foundation for ensuring smooth subsequent measurements.
-Understand the testing environment: Have a preliminary understanding of the environment to be tested, including the general distribution of dust, airflow conditions, etc., in order to better select suitable testing points.
2. Set detection parameters: Set relevant parameters according to the actual situation, such as laser power, sampling time, and sampling interval. Generally speaking, high-power lasers can improve measurement accuracy, but they will increase power consumption; Shorter sampling time and interval can increase measurement frequency, which can be set according to specific needs.
3. Positioning detection points: It is crucial to select representative locations as detection points. Measurements should be avoided in areas with restricted air flow or excessive dust accumulation to prevent affecting the accuracy of the results; It is also necessary to ensure that the height of the detection point is appropriate to reduce interference from the ground or other factors on the measurement.
4. Start measurement: Place the instrument at the selected detection point and start the measurement program. Taking the laser dust detector as an example, it will automatically emit a laser beam and record the intensity of the scattered beam, based on which the dust concentration can be calculated.
5. Record results: During the measurement process, real-time monitoring of dust concentration changes is carried out through the instrument display screen, and data is recorded in a timely manner. Most instruments have data storage functions, which can save results to internal memory or external storage devices for easy viewing and analysis in the future.
6. Data analysis and processing: After the measurement is completed, data analysis software can be used to further process the data, such as drawing concentration change curves, calculating average concentration values, and comparing and analyzing with other data, in order to evaluate the degree of dust pollution and provide a basis for taking corresponding measures.
