Safety hazards and protection guidelines for comprehensive thermal analyzer experiments
Date: 2025-09-16Read: 0
Integrated thermal analyzerAs a precision instrument for studying the thermal properties of materials, it is widely used in scientific research and quality inspection fields. However, it involves hazardous factors such as high temperature, high pressure, and harmful gases, and improper operation may lead to serious accidents. The following are the five major safety hazards that need to be prevented and corresponding measures during the experimental process:
1、 Risk of high temperature burns
The heating furnace temperature can reach 1600 ℃, which is the main source of danger. The operator must wear heat-resistant gloves and goggles, and it is strictly prohibited to directly touch the hot crucible or furnace body. Special tweezers should be used to pick up the crucible during sampling, and the furnace should be opened only after it has cooled down to a safe temperature.
2、 Sample explosion hazard
Crystalline water compounds, organic compounds, or easily decomposable substances may react violently when heated. Especially for samples such as metal powders and azides, instantaneous heat release may cause the crucible to explode. Before the experiment, it is necessary to consult the MSDS (Material Safety Data Sheet) and conduct preliminary DSC testing on unknown samples.
3、 Harmful gas leakage
When the inert gas (N ₂/Ar) is not completely replaced or toxic gases (such as SO ₂, NO ₓ) are produced during the reaction, it may cause suffocation or poisoning. Before the experiment, it is necessary to check the sealing of the air path and open the fume hood to the maximum air volume. For samples that may release corrosive gases, a tail gas absorption system should be connected.
4、 Electrical safety threats
There is a risk of leakage in high-power heating modules, and humid environments are more likely to cause short circuits. Before operation, ensure that the equipment is properly grounded and do not touch the control panel with wet hands. When replacing the crucible, the power must be cut off first to prevent electric arc injuries. Regularly check the aging condition of cables to avoid overloading multiple devices using the same socket.
5、 Chain reaction caused by misoperation
Incorrect program settings may lead to temperature runaway. It is recommended to use a blank crucible to calibrate the temperature calibration curve for the first experiment, and to set the heating program for complex samples in sections. After completing the experiment, exit the software promptly and turn off the host power to prevent accidental startup caused by residual current.
From standardized operation to emergency response, every step is related to experimental safety. Establishing standard operating procedures, equipping emergency equipment, and conducting safety training are necessary to minimize risks. Remember, every cautious operation is a responsibility for the life of scientific research and a care for expensive equipment. Only by building a strong safety line can thermal analysis technology truly become a tool for exploring the mysteries of materials.
