Calibration and maintenance of high-temperature thickness gauges: key to ensuring long-term stable operation
Date: 2025-12-08Read: 3

In the fields of metallurgy, chemical engineering, energy and other high-temperature operations, high-temperature thickness gauges serve as key detection equipment, and their measurement accuracy directly affects production safety and product quality. Factors such as dust, vibration, and temperature fluctuations in high-temperature environments can easily lead to instrument performance degradation. Therefore, scientific calibration and standardized maintenance have become the core links to ensure its long-term stable operation.

Calibration is the foundation for ensuring measurement accuracy, and a systematic calibration system needs to be established. Firstly, the calibration cycle should be clearly defined. Based on the frequency of use and the severity of the working conditions, it is generally recommended to perform regular calibration every 3-6 months. If there are abnormal fluctuations in the measurement data, temporary calibration should be carried out immediately. During the calibration process, standard test blocks that match the actual measurement scenario should be selected. The material and temperature range of the test blocks should be consistent with the measured workpiece to avoid calibration deviation caused by environmental differences. Taking the laser high-temperature thickness gauge as an example, the instrument needs to be preheated for 30 minutes before calibration. After the optical system and circuit module are stabilized, the zero point and range are set using a standard test block, and the average value is taken repeatedly to ensure that the error is controlled within the allowable range of the instrument. At the same time, detailed records of calibration data are required, including calibration date, standard test block parameters, error values, etc., to establish a complete calibration file and provide a basis for subsequent maintenance.
Daily maintenance is the key to extending the service life of instruments, and it is necessary to balance environmental adaptation and component maintenance. In high-temperature working environments, instrument lenses are prone to dust and oil contamination. They should be gently wiped with a dedicated cleaning cloth dipped in anhydrous ethanol daily to avoid scratching the optical lenses with hard objects; For the probe of the contact thickness gauge, it is necessary to regularly check for wear and replace the aging probe in a timely manner to prevent slipping or poor contact during measurement. The cooling system of the instrument is equally important, and it is necessary to regularly clean the dust accumulated in the cooling holes to ensure the normal operation of the fan and avoid damage to the circuit module due to overheating. In addition, the installation location of the instrument should be away from strong magnetic fields and sources of severe vibration. If necessary, shock absorbers and heat shields should be installed to reduce the impact of environmental factors on measurement accuracy.
Fault diagnosis and regular maintenance need to form a closed-loop management. When the instrument encounters problems such as measurement data drift and abnormal display, it should be checked according to the principle of "simple first, complex later": first check whether the power connection and circuit are normal, then check the communication status between the sensor and the host, and finally test the performance of the core components. For faults that cannot be resolved by oneself, it is necessary to contact professional technicians for maintenance. It is strictly prohibited to disassemble the instrument without authorization. At the same time, a comprehensive inspection should be conducted once a year to test and maintain the performance of key components such as circuit modules, sensors, and data processing systems, and to replace aging components in a timely manner.
The calibration and maintenance of high-temperature thickness gauges is a systematic task that requires a balance between scientificity, standardization, and sustainability. By establishing a comprehensive calibration system, implementing refined daily maintenance, and strengthening fault diagnosis and maintenance, we can ensure the stability of instrument measurement accuracy and effectively extend its service life, providing reliable support for safe and efficient operation in high-temperature work scenarios.
