Infrared band spectrometer is mainly used for analyzing the chemical composition and structure of substances
Date: 2025-03-27Read: 1
Infrared band spectrometers are mainly used to analyze the chemical composition and structure of substances. It utilizes the absorption, scattering, and transmission characteristics of substances towards infrared radiation to obtain information about molecular vibration and rotational energy levels. The working principle of an infrared spectrometer is based on the absorption of specific frequencies of electromagnetic waves by different molecular structures and functional groups in the infrared spectral region (wavelength range of approximately 0.78 to 1000 micrometers), resulting in characteristic absorption peaks. By measuring the intensity and frequency of infrared radiation absorbed by the sample, the chemical composition and structural information of the sample can be determined.
The working principle of an infrared band spectrometer is based on the absorption characteristics of substances towards infrared radiation of different wavelengths. When a beam of infrared light with a continuous wavelength passes through a substance, if the vibration frequency of a certain group in the substance molecule is the same as the frequency of infrared light, the molecule will absorb energy, undergo vibration and rotation energy level transitions, and thus absorb infrared light of a specific wavelength. By recording these absorption situations, the infrared absorption spectrum of the substance can be obtained, and then the composition and structure of the substance can be analyzed.
working principle
Light source: Use a light source suitable for the infrared band, such as a tungsten lamp or a blackbody radiator, to emit infrared radiation.
Sample: The substance to be analyzed is placed in the optical path.
Spectral element: Using spectral devices such as interferometers, gratings, etc., to disperse incident light into different wavelengths of light.
Detector: The optical signal processed by the sample and spectral element is received by the detector and converted into an electrical signal.
Data processing: Computer software processes and analyzes electrical signals to generate infrared spectra.
The working process of infrared spectrometer
The infrared light emitted by the light source passes through the interferometer to form interference light, which is then irradiated onto the sample.
The molecules in the sample absorb specific wavelengths of infrared light, causing changes in molecular vibration and rotational energy levels.
The detector detects these changes and converts the signal into an electrical signal.
Computers process signals and obtain infrared spectra through Fourier transform to analyze the composition and structure of samples.
