The core of the safety operation regulations for X-ray foreign object detection devices is to strictly control radiation exposure, standardize equipment operation procedures, ensure personnel and equipment safety, and cover the entire process of preparation before operation, monitoring during operation, handling after shutdown, and emergency response.
1、 Safety preparation before operation
Qualification confirmation: Operators must undergo professional training and pass the assessment, hold radiation safety related qualification certificates, and unlicensed personnel are strictly prohibited from operating.
Equipment inspection: Before starting up, check whether the appearance of the equipment is intact, and whether the cables and wiring are damaged; Confirm that the radiation warning signs (such as "Beware of Ionizing Radiation") are clear and prominent, and that the safety interlock devices (such as protective doors and emergency stop buttons) are functioning properly.
Environmental confirmation: Clear obstacles within 1 meter around the equipment and prohibit unrelated personnel from staying; Check the radiation protection area (such as lead shielding, protective curtains) for damage and ensure that there are no personnel or non testing items in the detection channel.
2、 Safe operation of equipment operation
Startup process: Start the main power supply, control system, and X-ray generator in sequence according to the device manual. After the device self checks (without error prompts), enter the working state.
Parameter setting: Based on the material and thickness of the detected item, set reasonable parameters such as X-ray dose and conveyor speed within the allowable range of the equipment to avoid excessive or insufficient radiation affecting the detection accuracy.
Item detection: Place the item to be detected steadily on the conveyor belt, ensuring that the item is centered and does not exceed the range of the conveyor belt; It is prohibited to put metal, magnetic, flammable and explosive materials (such as lighters and batteries) into the detection channel to prevent equipment damage or safety accidents.
Personnel protection: During operation, it is necessary to monitor outside the equipment protection area (such as the operating room or behind protective barriers), and it is strictly prohibited for any part of the body to enter the detection channel or approach the X-ray emission source; The single continuous operation time should not exceed 2 hours to avoid long-term close contact with radiation.
Exception handling: If there is an equipment alarm (such as radiation exceeding the standard, conveyor belt jamming), abnormal detection image or abnormal noise during operation, immediately press the emergency stop button to cut off the power supply of the X-ray generator. After the equipment is completely shut down, investigate the fault. Do not restart until the fault is resolved.
3、 Safe operation of equipment shutdown
Shutdown process: After the inspection is completed, turn off the X-ray generator first, wait for it to cool down for 5-10 minutes, and then turn off the control system and main power in sequence.
Equipment cleaning: Use a dry soft cloth to wipe the surface of the equipment and conveyor belt, and clean the debris in the detection channel; Do not use water or corrosive cleaning agents to clean the interior of equipment to prevent damage to circuits or protective components.
Record and handover: Fill in the equipment operation record, indicating the start-up time, number of detected items, equipment status, and abnormal conditions; When handing over to the next shift of operators, focus on explaining the operation status and precautions of the equipment.
4、 Emergency response standards
Emergency response to radiation leakage: If the radiation warning light is constantly on, the equipment reports an error message of "radiation leakage", or personnel experience symptoms of suspected radiation exposure such as dizziness and nausea, immediately evacuate all personnel to a safe area, turn off the main power supply of the equipment, and contact the radiation safety management department or equipment manufacturer for testing and maintenance. It is prohibited to disassemble the equipment by oneself.
Emergency equipment failure: In case of conveyor belt jamming, X-ray generator failure to shut down, etc., cut off the main power supply first to prevent equipment overload damage; If there is a mechanical failure (such as a broken conveyor belt), it should be repaired by professional maintenance personnel after the equipment is powered off. During the repair, a "Equipment under repair, do not start" sign should be hung.
Fire emergency: If the equipment causes a fire due to a short circuit in the circuit, immediately use a dry powder fire extinguisher (water is prohibited) to extinguish the fire, cut off the power supply, and call the fire department to evacuate the surrounding personnel.
