As the core light source for atomic absorption spectroscopy analysis, the use details of hollow cathode lamps directly affect the accuracy of analysis results and equipment life. Based on new technological specifications and practical requirements, the following elaborates on the key points of its use from five dimensions:
1、 Installation and selection specifications
1. Element compatibility selection
Each type of hollow cathode lamp corresponds to a specific element and requires strict selection based on the tested element. For example, copper element determination must use a copper lamp, and incorrect selection will result in no signal or false measurement.
2. Physical installation requirements
-Pollution prevention operation: During installation, it is forbidden to directly touch the glass part of the lamp tube with hands to avoid leaving fingerprints or oil stains that may affect the transmittance.
-Accurate positioning: After installation, the lamp position needs to be adjusted to ensure that the beam is accurately aligned with the atomizer and detector. Deviation exceeding 1mm will significantly reduce signal strength.
-Polarity verification: Before powering on, it is necessary to confirm that the anode and cathode connections are correct. Reverse connection may cause damage to the lamp tube.
2、 Current control and preheating management
Step by step current regulation
After starting, the current should be slowly increased to the specified value to avoid sudden high current causing cathode material spraying, which may widen the emission spectrum or cause a sudden drop in lifespan.
2. Dynamic preheating mechanism
New or unused lamps need to be preheated for 10-30 minutes to reach a stable state; Low melting point element lamps should reduce vibration to avoid cathode deformation.
3、 Periodic maintenance system
1. Proactively light up for maintenance
Lamps that have been idle for more than 3 months should be regularly powered on and burned for 2-3 hours to prevent gas adsorption from causing startup failure.
2. Deep regeneration technology
When there is a decrease in luminescence, reverse activation method can be used: exchange the electrodes and discharge continuously for half an hour under high current, and most lamp performance can be partially restored.
4、 Environmental Control and Safety Protection
1. Temperature and humidity control
The storage environment should be below 60% RH and equipped with desiccants to prevent moisture. Keep away from strong electromagnetic fields and mechanical vibration sources when using.
2. Emergency handling of damages
The rupture of the lamp tube must be handled according to the hazardous waste disposal process, and it is prohibited to dispose of leaked cathode materials at will.
5、 Efficiency optimization strategy
1. Window cleaning process
When quartz windows are stained, use degreasing cotton dipped in alcohol mixture to gently wipe them, and do not use hard tools to scrape.
2. Intelligent sleep application
When testing is paused for a short period of time, the basic current can be retained to maintain a constant temperature, which is more energy-efficient and more stable than restarting.
