The sensitivity of fixed odor gas detectors is affected by multidimensional factors, and its core lies in the collaborative optimization of sensor technology, environmental adaptability design, and data processing algorithms to achieve accurate monitoring of odor pollutants. The following analysis will be conducted from four aspects: hardware configuration, environment interaction, calibration and maintenance, and system integration:
1、 Principles and Performance Boundaries of Sensor Technology
As the detection core, the principle of sensors directly determines the upper limit of sensitivity. The current mainstream technologies include:
-Electrochemical sensors: In the detection of specific gases such as ammonia and hydrogen sulfide, the use of nanoscale microelectrode structures and catalytic coatings can achieve ppb level detection limits.
-Optoelectronic ion detector: for VOCs odorous substances, it uses ultraviolet lamps to ionize target molecules to generate current changes, with a dynamic range of up to 6 orders of magnitude, especially suitable for detecting active gases such as trimethylamine.
-Intelligent compensation algorithm: integrates a 32-bit microprocessor and a 24 bit high-precision ADC chip, corrects cross sensitivity effects through a full-scale temperature and humidity compensation model, and controls zero drift within ± 1% FS.
The selection of sensors should match the application scenario, and for chemical scenarios, it is recommended to use intrinsically safe circuit designs. For waste disposal sites, the protection level should be strengthened to IP66 to resist corrosion.
2、 Coupling effect of environmental parameters
On site working conditions have nonlinear interference on sensitivity:
-Temperature and humidity fluctuations: Special high humidity environments can cause dilution of sensor electrolyte, resulting in output signal attenuation; Sudden temperature changes can cause thermal expansion and contraction of materials, which may generate mechanical stress pseudo signals. The solution includes a built-in PTC heating module to maintain a constant temperature zone, as well as a hydrophobic film layer to prevent condensation from adhering.
-Pressure and velocity field: Diffusion sampling relies on natural convection, and the response time is extended to over 180 seconds in low wind speed environments; Although pump suction can force injection, the accuracy deviation of the flowmeter will introduce errors in volume concentration conversion. It is recommended to use MQTT protocol to achieve cloud calibration synchronization and offset the pressure impact caused by altitude changes.
-Composite pollution interference: When H ₂ S coexists with NH ∝, a chemical reaction occurs to generate ammonium salt particles, which physically obscure the surface of the sensor. At this point, it is necessary to activate the multi parameter joint inversion algorithm and combine PID-AH with electrochemical array data to improve recognition accuracy.
3、 Calibration system and traceability of measurement values
Periodic calibration is a key means of maintaining sensitivity:
-Quasi gas level: The first level standard gas is filled with pure substances in NIST traceable steel cylinders, and the second level is prepared on-site using a dynamic gas distribution instrument, with a relative expanded uncertainty of ≤ 3% (k=2).
-Calibration cycle strategy: It is recommended to return to the factory for calibration every 6 months in regular environments, and shorten it to 3 months under high load conditions. Focus on checking whether the linear error exceeds the ± 5% FS threshold, otherwise the aging sensor needs to be replaced.
-Intelligent self calibration system: equipped with an infrared remote control, it can automatically zero and span calibrate without opening the casing, avoiding contamination of the sensor chamber during operation.
4、 System integration and signal integrity
The data transmission link also constrains effective sensitivity:
-Anti interference design: In strong electromagnetic environments, the shielding layer of twisted pair cables can suppress common mode interference to below 15V/m, meeting the requirements of GB3836.2 explosion-proof standards.
-Alarm threshold linkage: When the detection value exceeds the preset threshold, in addition to local sound and light alarms, it can also trigger the DCS system to start the fan replacement process, forming a closed-loop control.
The odor detector has developed into a comprehensive system that integrates materials science, microelectronics, and artificial intelligence. Users should allocate resources based on specific scenario weights - prioritize explosion-proof certification and redundant backup in high-risk areas, focus on resolution and response speed for scientific research purposes, and strengthen network compatibility and maintenance convenience for municipal projects.
