The operating principle of rotary piston vacuum pump
Date: 2025-06-23Read: 32
Rotary piston vacuum pump is a mechanical equipment commonly used for preparing vacuum environments, widely used in fields such as chemistry, physics experiments, pharmaceuticals, and food processing. Its working principle mainly relies on the rotational motion of the piston, generating negative pressure through a gradual compression and exhaust process. The following is its detailed working principle.
Working principle of rotary piston vacuum pump
Piston rotation
The core component of a rotary piston vacuum pump is a rotating device with a piston. The piston is installed in an eccentric position inside the pump body and is driven to rotate by an electric motor.
When the piston begins to rotate, the volume inside the pump chamber changes, leading to the suction and discharge of gas inside the chamber.
Inhalation process
At the initial position of the rotating piston, the volume of the pump chamber increases, the pressure inside the chamber decreases, and external gas is drawn into the pump chamber through the inlet.
As the piston rotates, the gas is sealed inside the pump chamber and continues to be compressed.
Compression process
As the piston continues to rotate, it gradually reduces the volume of the pump chamber, compressing the gas inside and gradually increasing the air pressure.
At this time, the exhaust valve remains closed to prevent gas from being discharged prematurely.
Exhaust process
When the piston continues to rotate to a certain position, the air pressure in the pump chamber reaches a certain value, and the exhaust valve is opened.
The compressed gas is discharged through the exhaust port, completing one working cycle.
continuous cycle
This process continues as the gas inside the pump chamber is continuously drawn in, compressed, and expelled. Through multiple cycles, the pressure inside the pump chamber gradually decreases, eventually reaching the desired vacuum state.
Characteristics of rotary piston vacuum pump
High efficiency: Due to the continuous and efficient suction and discharge of gas by the rotating motion of the piston, the pump can achieve a high vacuum degree in a short period of time.
Simple structure: The rotary piston vacuum pump has a relatively simple structure, high reliability, and is suitable for various industrial environments.
Wide applicability: This vacuum pump can be widely used in low-pressure pumping, refrigerant recovery, vacuum sealing and other fields.
Application field
Chemical laboratory: used for extracting gases from reactions, vacuuming, and preparing vacuum environments.
Pharmaceutical industry: used for processes such as vacuum drying and solvent recovery of drugs.
Food processing: used for packaging and vacuum treatment of food.
Electronic equipment manufacturing: used in the production process of semiconductors, vacuum tubes, and other equipment.
Advantages and Challenges
Advantages:
Simple and durable, with low maintenance costs.
Fast inhalation speed and high vacuum degree.
Suitable for various types of gases and pressure ranges.
Challenge:
The noise is loud, especially during high-speed operation.
Due to mechanical friction, there may be some energy loss and wear.
For gases with high viscosity and particle content, a specially designed pump body may be necessary to avoid blockage.
The rotary piston vacuum pump can continuously and stably create a vacuum environment through precise mechanical structure and piston motion, and is widely used in many industrial and scientific research fields.
