1、 The working principle of the blow sweep capture device
The blowdown capture instrument is an automated device that extracts and enriches volatile organic compounds (VOCs) from samples through a three-stage process of "blowdown capture analysis". The core principle is based on the law of gas distribution, which can be divided into the following stages:
1. Purging stage:
-Continuously purge the sample with high-purity inert gases (such as helium and nitrogen) to transfer VOCs from the liquid or solid phase to the gas phase.
-The blowing efficiency is affected by gas flow rate, time, and sample characteristics: excessively high flow rate may result in incomplete release of the target substance, while excessively low flow rate may prolong the processing time.
2. Capture stage:
-The airflow containing VOCs passes through a capture tube filled with adsorbents (such as activated carbon, polymer resin), where the target substance is adsorbed and enriched, and the interfering substance (such as water vapor) is filtered.
-The adsorption performance of the capture tube is related to temperature and adsorbent type. It can efficiently adsorb at room temperature and needs to be cooled if necessary (such as a water trap).
3. Analysis stage:
-The capture tube is rapidly heated (heating rate>3000 ℃/min), and VOCs are separated and analyzed by gas chromatography (GC/GC-MS) with the carrier gas after thermal desorption.
2、 Structure, composition, and function of the blowdown and capture device
1. Core components:
-Blowing unit: including gas source, flow controller, blowing tube, supporting constant flow rate output.
-Capture system: adsorption tube (containing specific adsorbent), cold trap (air-cooled or semiconductor refrigeration), water removal device.
-Analysis module: Resistance heating device (winding heating, temperature control accuracy ± 5 ℃), six way valve to switch the airflow path.
2. Auxiliary functions:
-Automated control: Touch screen setting parameters (blowing time, heating temperature), supporting power on self-test and fault alarm.
-Anti pollution design: foam sensor, reverse blowing gas separation technology, inert pipeline (PEEK/silanized stainless steel) to reduce cross pollution.
3、 Use details and key parameters
1. Operation process:
-Sample preparation: Liquid samples are directly added to the bottle, while solids need to be heated and mixed; High foam samples need to be added with antifoam agent or diluted.
-Parameter settings:
-Blow flow rate: usually 10-100mL/min, balancing efficiency and capture rate;
-Blow time: 5-20 minutes, complex samples can be extended;
-Desorption temperature: 200-300 ℃ (depending on the adsorbent).
-Typical process: dry blowing (removing moist gas) → blowing → desorption → injection → back blowing cleaning.
2. Maintenance and upkeep:
-Daily maintenance: check air tightness, clean the filter screen of the collection pipe, wipe the condensed water in the pipeline;
-Regular maintenance: replace aging seals and capture pipes (every 1-3 months);
-Calibration: Pressure sensors and flow controllers should be calibrated every six months.
3. Precautions:
-Avoid cross contamination: Separate the blow off tube from the capture tube, and sterilize the sample bottle at high temperature;
-Temperature control: During the capture stage, the temperature should be ≤ 30 ℃ (to prevent penetration), and the analysis temperature should match the tolerance range of the adsorbent;
-Safety protection: Wear protective equipment when handling toxic samples and regularly check gas leak alarms.
