What are the maintenance and upkeep methods for sapphire reaction vessels?
Date: 2025-11-20Read: 0
Sapphire ReactorWith the core advantages of high temperature resistance, corrosion resistance, and strong transparency of sapphire material, it is widely used in high-pressure/high-temperature reaction scenarios in chemical, pharmaceutical, new materials and other fields. Scientific maintenance can extend the service life of equipment, ensure reaction safety and measurement accuracy. Specific methods can be divided into the following categories:
1、 Basic maintenance after daily use
Clean the chamber and accessories in a timely manner: After the reaction is complete, wait for the equipment to cool down to room temperature (to avoid material cracking caused by high temperature cleaning), and choose a suitable cleaning agent based on the characteristics of the reaction medium - weak alkaline cleaning agents (such as dilute sodium carbonate solution) are used for acidic medium residues, dilute acetic acid solution is used for alkaline medium residues, and volatile solvents such as ethanol and acetone are used for organic medium residues. Do not use highly corrosive cleaning agents containing fluorine or chlorine. When cleaning, gently wipe the inner wall of the sapphire chamber and the sealing surface of the kettle cover with a soft brush or dust-free cloth to avoid scratching with hard objects (sapphire has high hardness but strong brittleness, and sharp objects can easily cause scratches).
Drying treatment to prevent residue: After cleaning, rinse the chamber and seals with deionized water, then blow them with nitrogen or let them air dry naturally in a ventilated and dry place to prevent residual solvents or moisture from causing scaling inside the chamber and aging of the seals.
Accessory sorting and storage: Disassembled mixing blades, sealing gaskets, temperature probes and other accessories need to be cleaned and dried separately, and stored in a dry and dust-free toolbox according to specifications to avoid mixing, contamination with impurities or deformation under pressure.
2、 Special maintenance of key components
1. Sapphire cavity maintenance
Avoid severe collisions: Handle with care during transportation or installation, and do not strike or impact the cavity to prevent cracks or edge breakage; Before long-term use, a thin layer of silicone oil (food grade or industrial grade compatible model) should be applied to the inner wall of the cavity to isolate it from air and moisture.
Regularly check the integrity: Before each use, observe whether there are scratches, cracks, dents, and other damages in the cavity. If there are small scratches, they should be lightly polished and repaired with a special polishing agent in a timely manner; If the crack exceeds 0.5mm or penetrates the cavity, it should be immediately stopped and replaced to avoid rupture during high-pressure reactions.
Avoid extreme temperature shock: The heating rate of the equipment should not exceed 5 ℃/min. During cooling, it should be naturally cooled or slowly cooled with a cooling medium. It is forbidden to directly spray cold water into the high-temperature chamber to prevent thermal expansion and contraction that may cause damage to the chamber.
2. Maintenance of sealing system
Sealing gasket maintenance: Common sealing materials (such as PTFE, fluororubber) should avoid contact with sharp objects. Before each installation, check whether the gasket is deformed, aged, or damaged. If there is hardening, cracking, or wear on the sealing surface, replace it with a gasket of the same specification in a timely manner; Avoid direct sunlight and high temperature environment during storage to prevent accelerated material aging.
Cleaning and lubrication of sealing surface: Before installing the kettle cover, wipe the sealing contact surface between the kettle cover and the cavity with a dust-free cloth to ensure that there are no impurities left; A small amount of specialized sealing grease (such as silicon-based grease) can be applied to the sealing surface to enhance sealing performance and reduce friction loss. The use of grease compatible with the reaction medium is prohibited.
3. Maintenance of mixing and transmission system
Maintenance of mixing blade: During cleaning, check whether the mixing blade blades are corroded, deformed, or worn. If the blades have stubborn scaling, use soft tools to clean them and prohibit violent scratching; Regularly check the tightness of the connecting shaft of the mixing blade. If there is any looseness, tighten it in a timely manner to avoid vibration during operation.
Lubrication of transmission components: Special lubricating oil (according to the specified model in the equipment manual) should be added to the bearings, gears, and other transmission components connected to the motor and mixing shaft every 3-6 months. The amount of oil should cover the transmission contact surface to avoid component wear and abnormal noise caused by oil shortage; If any abnormal noise or heating is found in the transmission components, the machine should be stopped to check for any jamming or wear, and repaired and replaced in a timely manner.
4. Maintenance of measurement and control system
Sensor and instrument maintenance: The probes of temperature and pressure sensors should be kept clean, and residual media on the surface of the probes should be wiped off after each use to avoid corrosion affecting measurement accuracy; Regularly calibrate the instrument (recommended to calibrate every 6-12 months) to ensure accurate temperature and pressure display. If the instrument drifts or exceeds the error limit, promptly contact the manufacturer for debugging or replacement.
Electrical component protection: Keep electrical components such as motors and control cabinets dry and clean to avoid short circuits caused by splashing reaction media or humid environments; Regularly check whether the wires, plugs, and interfaces are aging or damaged. If there are insulation layer cracks or poor contacts, replace the wires or repair the interfaces in a timely manner.
3、 Regular comprehensive maintenance (recommended every 6-12 months)
Overall disassembly inspection: completely disassemble the reaction kettle, inspect the wear and corrosion of the sapphire chamber, kettle cover, stirring system, seals, and transmission components one by one, and replace the aging and severely damaged components uniformly.
Pressure test verification: After assembly, conduct a water pressure or air tightness test (at 1.2-1.5 times the rated pressure of the equipment), hold the pressure for 30 minutes, observe whether the pressure drops or there are leaks, and ensure the safety of high-pressure operation of the equipment.
Lubrication system update: Thoroughly clean the old lubricating oil of the transmission components and add new oil; Check if the lubrication pipeline is unobstructed to avoid blockage and lubrication failure.
Control system debugging: Start the equipment to run without load, test the stability of mixing speed, temperature/pressure control accuracy, check whether the alarm system (over temperature, over pressure alarm) is sensitive, and ensure that the control system works normally.
4、 Storage and environmental maintenance
Work environment control: The equipment should be placed in a dry, ventilated, and vibration free room, with an ambient temperature of 5-35 ℃ and a relative humidity of ≤ 85%. It should be kept away from corrosive gases, flammable and explosive materials, and strong electromagnetic interference sources.
Long term disuse maintenance: If the equipment is not used for a long time (more than 3 months), it should be completely disassembled, cleaned, and dried. Anti rust oil or silicone oil should be applied to the surface of the cavity and metal parts, and the sealing components should be separately sealed and stored; The entire device is covered with a dust cover to prevent dust contamination.
Handling and installation protection: Use specialized lifting tools or carts during handling to avoid excessive tilting angles (≤ 30 °); Ensure that the equipment is placed horizontally and securely fixed during installation to prevent vibration during operation from affecting sealing and service life.
5、 Precautions
Strictly follow the equipment manual for operation, and prohibit the use of over temperature, over pressure, and over range (the rated temperature of the sapphire chamber is usually ≤ 250 ℃, and the rated pressure is ≤ 30MPa, depending on the specific model requirements).
It is prohibited to use sapphire cavities to contain media containing hydrofluoric acid and fluoride, as such substances can corrode sapphire materials and cause damage to the cavity.
During maintenance, it is necessary to cut off the power supply, relieve pressure, and cool down to ensure that the equipment is in a safe state; When it comes to high-voltage testing and electrical maintenance, it should be operated by professionals to avoid safety accidents.
Establish a maintenance ledger to record the time, content, and operators of each cleaning, inspection, and replacement of components, facilitating the traceability of equipment status.
