Medical Device Sealing Tester | Overview
Date: 2025-04-15Read: 0
1、 Equipment Definition and Core Values
Medical device sealing tester is a professional equipment used to test the sealing performance of medical device packaging or instruments. It verifies the sealing of packaging or instruments by simulating the pressure, humidity and other conditions in actual storage, transportation or use environments, preventing microbial invasion, drug leakage or gas penetration. It is a key tool in the production, quality inspection and research and development of medical devices. Its core value lies in:
1. Ensure medical safety: avoid instrument contamination caused by sealing failure, and reduce the risk of postoperative infection;
2. Compliance with regulatory requirements: Meet the mandatory testing requirements for packaging sealing in international and domestic standards such as Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) and ISO11607;
3. Optimize product quality: Help enterprises discover sealing design defects and improve packaging reliability.
2、 Working principle and detection method
According to different detection principles, it can be mainly divided into the following categories:
(1) Pressure attenuation method (commonly used)
Principle: Fill the sealed packaging with a certain pressure of gas (such as air or nitrogen), and monitor the pressure change after sealing. If there are leakage holes in the packaging, the pressure will decay over time, and the leakage amount can be determined by the decay rate.
Features: High detection accuracy, quantifiable leakage aperture (minimum detectable leakage aperture below 5 μ m), suitable for hollow instruments or flexible packaging such as syringes, infusion bags, catheters, etc.
(2) Vacuum attenuation method
Principle: Place the packaging in a vacuum chamber, observe the expansion of the packaging after vacuuming. If there is a leak, external air will seep in, causing changes in pressure inside the packaging or deformation of its appearance.
Features: Non destructive testing, suitable for final inspection of sterile medical devices, such as sterile gloves and hard packaging of implantable devices.
(3) Dye permeation method
Principle: Apply dye solution (such as methylene blue) on the outer surface of the packaging, apply pressure to allow the dye solution to penetrate. If there are dye marks inside, it indicates the presence of a leak.
Characteristics: Easy to operate, low cost, but belongs to destructive testing, commonly used for preliminary screening or laboratory research.
(4) Microbial Challenge Method
Principle: After inoculating the packaging with microorganisms, simulate transportation environment vibration or pressure to detect whether there is microbial contamination inside the packaging.
Characteristics: Directly associated with clinical risks, but with a long testing cycle (requiring cultivation for more than 72 hours), usually used as a confirmatory method.
3、 Core functions and technical parameters
(1) Multi functional detection capability
1. Quantitative analysis of sealing: automatically calculate leakage rate (such as mL/min), leakage aperture (μ m), and generate pressure time curve;
2. Environmental simulation: supports multi parameter adjustment of temperature (0-80 ℃), humidity (20% -95% RH), vibration frequency (0-300 times/minute), etc., simulating the sealing performance after transportation and sterilization (such as high temperature and high pressure steam);
3. Data traceability: Store detection records, support CSV and PDF format export, meet GMP electronic data management requirements.
4、 Application scenarios and industry cases
(1) The entire production chain of medical devices
1. Raw material quality inspection: testing the sealing performance of packaging film, bottle stoppers and other raw materials, such as pinhole defects in medical low-density polyethylene (LDPE) film;
2. Finished product testing:
-Injection equipment: Check the sealing between the piston and syringe of the pre filled syringe to avoid leakage of the medication;
-Implanted instruments: Verify the vacuum sealing status of the titanium alloy bone nail packaging box to prevent secondary contamination after sterilization;
-In vitro diagnostic reagents: Test the heat sealing strength of the aluminum foil bag of the test kit to prevent the reagents from being affected by moisture and becoming ineffective.
(2) Typical Industry Cases
1. Hospital Disinfection Supply Center: Conduct sealing sampling on sterilization packaging of reusable surgical instruments (such as laparoscopes) to ensure sterilization effectiveness;
2. Research institutions: When developing new biodegradable vascular stents, test the long-term sealing stability of the packaging in physiological saline at 37 ℃;
3. Regulatory authorities: Conduct a sealing review test on the recalled medical devices and trace the cause of quality accidents.
5、 Equipment structure and maintenance points
(1) Core components
1. Pressure control system: including vacuum pump, pressure sensor, solenoid valve, to achieve precise pressure regulation;
2. Testing chamber: Made of food grade 316L stainless steel, with strong corrosion resistance and support for high-temperature sterilization;
3. Data processing unit: equipped with PLC control system and touch screen, supporting custom detection programs.
(2) Maintenance suggestions
1. Daily maintenance: Wipe the cavity with ethanol after each use to prevent residual corrosion of the medication;
2. Regular calibration: Use standard leak holes (such as 10 μ m aperture) to calibrate sensor accuracy every six months;
3. Fault warning: When the pressure fluctuation exceeds ± 1kPa, it is necessary to check the sealing of the air circuit to avoid detection deviation caused by aging of the sealing ring.
6、 Industry Trends and Technological Upgrades
With the development of intelligent medical devices, sealing testers are iterating towards the direction of "online detection+AI analysis":
1. Automation integration: linked with the production line to achieve high-speed online inspection of more than 200 pieces per minute;
2. Intelligent algorithm: Analyze tens of thousands of sets of sealing data through machine learning to predict packaging process defects in advance;
3. Miniature design: Portable sealed detectors (such as handheld pressure attenuation devices) have been applied for on-site sampling, meeting the needs of rapid quality inspection of emergency equipment.
As an invisible defense line for medical safety, the accuracy of medical device sealing testers is directly related to the health of millions of patients. Its technological progress has always been deeply linked to industry standards and clinical needs, promoting higher standards for medical device quality control.
